39. Principles of Spoken Language Recognition
نویسنده
چکیده
In this introductory chapter to Part G of this Handbook on spoken language recognition, we provide a brief overview of the principles of state-ofthe-art language recognition approaches, and a general discriminative training framework to improve the performance and robustness of language recognition systems. It is followed by three chapters. The first of these addresses issues related to spoken language characterization in which knowledge sources can be utilized to distinguish one language from another. The second chapter deals with language identification based on phone recognition followed by language modeling using either spectral or token-based approaches. The third chapter presents vector-space characterization approaches to converting speech utterances into spoken document vectors for modeling and classification. With recent progress in speech processing, machine learning, and text categorization, we expect significant technology advances in spoken language recognition in the years to come. This chapter is organized as follows. Section 39.2 briefly describes the principle of spoken 39.1 Spoken Language ................................. 785

متن کاملPrinciples of the ‘Lingua Franca Approach’ and their implications for pedagogical practice in the Iranian context
AbstractThe last thirty five years have created a challenging situation for Iran and its people: on the one hand, the discriminatory British and American policies towards the country have given rise to considerable bitterness; on the other, we continue to teach both British and American English. If Iranian people wish to play a more active role internationally, it is time to review our English ...

Identifying spoken language automatically is to identify a language from the speech signal. Language identification systems can be divided into two categories, spectral-based methods and phonetic-based methods. In the former, short-time characteristics of speech spectrum are extracted as a multi-dimensional vector. The statistical model of these features is then obtained for each language. The ...
متن کاملDesign and Evaluation of Spoken Dialog Systems
Interactive spoken dialog systems extend the range of automated telecommunication services beyond simple limited-choice form-filling applications to goal-directed tasks covering richer, more complex domains. Creating effective and efficient dialog systems requires not only accurate ancl robust speech recognition and language modeling, but also iterative, principled design of the user interface ...
متن کاملTowards Highly Usable and Robust Spoken Language Technologies for Chinese
This paper gives an overview of our research on Chinese spoken language technologies during the past ten years. It covers fundamental acoustic-phonetic studies of spoken Cantonese, speech corpora development, automatic speech recognition and text-to-speech. Currently our focus is on making these technologies more usable for general users who are not speech experts, and more robust for real-worl...
